Founder and Director of Alchemy Construct, Jamie has transformed his business dreams that began from the comfort of his home to an award winning, innovative Construction Company delivering a high-level service.

Jamie has worked as a Project Manager on a multitude of major construction ventures as well as many tertiary and key public developments back in Australia as well as in his home country, Scotland.

His noteworthy projects include the redevelopment of the Point Cook Community Learning Centre, a multi-storey building joint to a library and a childcare centre, as well as the construction of the Victoria Police HQ Complex valued at $200 million.

After many years working in the industry, Jamie realised he wanted to develop a new type of construction company, a game changing business with a positive skilled and enthusiastic team that would go the extra mile.

Sarah is the Director of Brand and Marketing and co-founder of Alchemy Construct alongside her husband, Jamie Nicolson.

With a background in Broadcasting, PR and Marketing, Sarah brings a high level of expertise to Alchemy’s marketing and digital media presence. Working with a range of highly regarded photographers, videographers and like-minded clients, Sarah’s keen eye for style and attention to detail ensures that Alchemy and it’s projects, it’s people and the news stories it generates make a strong connection with the audience.

Passionate about brand management and company identity, Sarah has a unique ability to quickly build rapport with existing and potential clients and plays a key role in creating strong working relationships.

As well as working with the team at Alchemy, Sarah has her own creative business, Studio Dedikit, which focuses on her passion for photography, styling and brand presence.

With a 20-year career in the construction industry, most recently as a Senior Commercial Manager, Daniel brings a wealth of experience and a proven ability to deliver.

Daniel has previously been involved in developing and evolving business growth in Victoria, and other states across Australia in construction companies and divisions across the country.

Daniel shares Alchemy’s passion and values and is a fantastic asset to our team. He helps us to continue to grow and develop, taking us to the next level projects-wise, with a focus on the future direction of the business, and the continued nurturing of a high performing team.

Braham has 30 years experience in construction, starting his career in the mining sector constructing mineral sands mines throughout Australia, then moving into the D&C field in the chemical, food, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries. With such a solid foundation, Braham then upsized into the commercial and retail arena working with Tier2 builders, gaining further experience across the full breadth of industry sectors, working on several projects up to $100M.

Braham is a focused and skilled Construction Manager, is highly respected by his peers and subcontractors, and provides strong and ‘big picture’ leadership. With excellent people management skills, and a full understanding all technical matters, Braham is able to focus on critical project issues early to ensure they’re addressed comprehensively in a risk-mitigating manner.

As Finance Manager, Lucy has overall responsibility for the management of Alchemy’s finances and fiduciary obligations.

A qualified Chartered Accountant, she ensures that our cashflow is well managed, our teams are focused on their project finances and our management and statutory reporting are handled in an accurate and timely manner.

In the time that Lucy has been with Alchemy the company has grown significantly, necessitating changes to financial processes and procedures, systems and reporting requirements. She looks for efficiencies and better ways of doing things and puts her people skills to good use, driving the project teams at month end and managing our banking relationships. With previous experience working in the Construction Industry, Lucy quickly settled into life at Alchemy and is a valued member of the management team.

A qualified Quantity Surveyor, Liam commenced his career in Ireland before moving to Australia.

With 15+ years of industry experience, Liam has a proven track record of bidding for and winning quality projects, as well as developing strong relationships within key industry contacts. A cool head under pressure with an adaptable attitude, Liam enables success by supporting his colleagues and leading a high performing team.

His very sound knowledge of construction methodologies and site management procedures, mean that together with strong design and construct capabilities, he ensures overall comprehensive tender proposals. Liam will lead our tender team, and help support our continued growth as we step into the Tier 2 market.

Beginning his career as a carpenter/joiner working on residential and commercial frameworks, John quickly progressed to a Site Manager position with his strong organisational and technical skills. John has worked to deliver a number of large scale projects including; the South Wharf cargo sheds, and many projects for RMIT and Deakin University.

With a strong ability to problem-solve, John’s positive ‘can-do’ attitude and years of experience make him very well equipped to run well-managed sites.

With more than 10 years experience in the construction industry, Alex’s vast experience spans a number of areas including; occupational health and safety, emergency management, risk mitigation, audits, business strategy and leadership.

Over his years in industry, Alex has also gained experience in the corporate, information technology, engineering, oil and gas, mining, rail, civil infrastructure, and professional consulting services sectors.

With a get-things-done approach, Alex brings his wide range of experience and his Safety, Health, Risk, Environment and Quality know-how and guidance to the team.

Throughout his career, Joe has managed a number of major projects including; the Toll New Vessels Berthing and Infrastructure project ($45m) and the Solar and Vanadium Flow Battery (VFB) Development Project ($20m).

Shabab gained a wealth of knowledge in project management, document control, organisation of sub-contractors engagement and certification of specialist equipment and services, working on major healthcare projects in Bangladesh – specifically delivering the turn-key operating theatres, wards and all support ancillary services in specialist cardiac hospitals.

Shabab has high levels of diligence in sub-contract administration, has excellent communication skills with highly complex and technical systems and services, as well as pro-active collaboration skills, all of which came to the fore during his time successfully project managing six different projects for AFC Health.

Since joining Alchemy Construct, Shabab has coordinated works at Northpark Private Hospital for the upgrade of the Central Sterilization Services Department (CSSD) to current Code, where strong lines of communication and stakeholder interface were essential for the ongoing hospital operations. He has also been introduced to the tertiary education space, overseeing the refurbishment of specialist research laboratories at RMIT University, working with the team to achieve OGTR certification. He also recently completed the Bionics Institute’s Bio Medical Device Development Facility, for St Vincent’s Hospital.

Gerry is an experienced Site Manager with a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the construction sector.

With a number of certificates and qualifications under his belt, Gerry began his early career as a carpenter/joiner, working his way towards a Site Manager position.

Over his years of experience, Gerry has been involved in managing the sites of multiple large-scale projects including; the construction of David Jones Bourke Street, as well as the 12 storey Department of Housing Tower in Kensington.

Travis has 20 years construction experience, many of those leading on-site resources and managing works on “tricky” and constrained sites as a dedicated, safety-conscious Site Manager.

Having started his career as a trade-qualified carpenter on large-scale residential and commercial works, Travis was quickly promoted to Site Manager at a Tier3 builder where he excelled on a number of the BER education projects during an intense period of projects delivery to strict deadlines.

Travis subsequently joined a Tier1 builder and during a 9 year tenure worked across several industry sectors, including Commercial Retail, Office and Apartments, as well as further larger scale Education jobs, providing him with a very sound understanding on site controls to minimise any potential impact to business operations. With recent hospital and school projects in the very “live” environment, Travis has a proven record delivering major works in challenging environments.

Commencing her career running a successful civil and landscape family business, Pauline then entered the construction industry as an Estimator, developing a detailed understanding of the industry from “the ground up”, initially working in structural steel, concrete and civil fields. Pauline progressed into fitout and new construction works across a variety of industries in South Australia, taking on senior roles and honing her project management skills delivering a substantial portfolio of commercial and retail fit-outs, where her attention to detail achieved some great quality outcomes.

Pauline has a wealth of knowledge in the medical and education sectors where she excels in construction management and D&C contracts. Her proven ability, dedication and resilience make Pauline one of the best Project Managers in our industry.

Taking projects from concept through to construction, Tom’s experience as Project Manager has seen him working across a number of large scale projects including the Timboon and Yawong Wind Farms, the University of Melbourne Prince Alfred Hotel, and the Upwell Health Collective.

Tom has completed degrees with both University of Melbourne and Master Builders Victoria and he is well placed to take on a wide variety of projects, thanks to his years of proven experience and his motivated and positive nature.

Commencing his professional career with Alchemy, Stefano completed the final year of his Diploma of Building and Construction at RMIT whilst also working as part of the Alchemy team.

Stefano is a motivated team member, with his ‘pull-the-sleeves-up’ attitude, he has exposure and experience in contract administrating and project coordinating, specifically – liaising with subcontractors, financing, scoping works to setup projects, assisting in swift correspondence and solving problems that may arise.

Beginning her early career in the Marketing space, Phoebe moved into the Construction sector working across a number of residential and commercial projects, where she found her niche in Estimating.

With experience in sales estimating and tendering architectural design, residential and dual occupancy/multi-unit developments up to $4m, as well as managing projects of up to $4m in contract value, Phoebe is a dedicated and knowledgeable Estimator with a high level of expertise.

Shane Whiteley has more than 30 years’ experience in the building industry. A qualified carpenter, he ran his own carpentry company for 16 years.

During this time, he specialised in domestic housing including renovations, extensions, kitchen make overs and new builds. He also participated in larger projects – for example, the re-building of St Catherine’s Greek Orthodox Church in East Malvern following its destruction by fire. Shane is used to leading a cohesive, motivated team and is a stickler for producing quality workmanship.

Since joining Alchemy Construct, Shane has been involved in a variety of projects. Most recently, projects have included the successful completion of the new Stroke Unit fit out at Royal Melbourne Hospital. Shane worked as a key member of the team that successfully delivered this world class, multi-million-dollar project two weeks ahead of schedule.

Leon is an experienced Contract Administrator/ Estimator, having worked across a range of commercial, residential, educational and government projects, gaining broad experience on projects of up to $12M. Leon is well qualified with a Master in Project Management that underpins his day-to-day activities, with a very thorough technical understanding of construction works.

Early in his career Leon was involved in a multitude of residential developments and high-end pre-fabricated construction, and also developed knowledge with specialist healthcare and aged care projects. Since joining Alchemy Construct Leon has worked on public sector and education projects, including works for Monash and RMIT universities.

Branca is an experienced Contract Administrator, having worked across a broad range of sectors, including Hospitals, Aged Care, Residential, Retail, Sporting Facilities and Major Transport Infrastructure.

With a strong technical background and foundation, Branca is highly proficient in trade package procurement and subsequent sub-contractor administration and management. She prides herself on clear and accurate project financials, including cash flow, variations and overall status reporting.

Kelvin is a multifaceted Project Manager with a diverse range of experience on projects up to $15M in value, many with bespoke engineering systems and infrastructure service upgrade. Having commenced his career in construction Tasmania in Estimating and Contract Administration, he quickly excelled into a project management role, and demonstrated capacity successfully delivering multiple and often complex works.

Kelvin possesses a strong team-oriented work ethic, believes in creating an excellent work culture with his colleagues, and always maintains a collaborative relationship with clients, consultants and stakeholders in the best interest of the project.

In the role of Contract Administrator, John has been responsible for the management of contracts across a variety of projects, including Aged Care, Medical and Education.

John’s focus on attention to detail, coupled with his strong project management and procurement skills ensures that clients receive a high level of customer service.

Commencing his career in the United States before moving to Australia, John worked as Project Engineer on a number of key pipeline, transport infrastructure and multi-use development projects.

Sean commenced his career in the construction industry as a carpenter in Ireland, and since arriving in Australia in 2001 quickly progressed to a site manager role delivering a wide variety of projects, including new builds, major refurbishments and fitouts. During this time, Sean has gained invaluable experience in residential, education, health and aged care sectors, and prides himself on safely delivering works in “live” environments.

Sean has delivered numerous technical and challenging projects, and in 2011 and 2012 received two Master Builder Association of Victoria awards for Excellence in Construction and Excellence in Safety. Sean received further recognition by the receipt of an Australian Institute of Building (AIB) high commendation award in construction in the “Commercial Building $10-50M” category for Monash Health’s Kingston Centre Central project in 2018 – a highly complex project requiring meticulous site planning and execution.

James Macdonald

James has experience working in Australia, New Zealand and the UK, working across a broad range of project types, including landfill, medium-density residential and associated sub-divisions, fitouts, extensions and new build projects. Before joining Alchemy Construct James worked on Christchurch’s infrastructure re-build following the 2011 earthquake damage, managing major infrastructures services pipeline replacements.

James has extensive experience in tertiary education fitouts, with a particular capacity to complete works with major programme challenges, raising energy levels of the team to achieve the client’s deadline. James expanded his project management experience more recently to include building extension/construction works, focuses on maintaining safe operation of ongoing activities in the immediate vicinity of the works, and appreciates client protocols for managing isolations and work permits when operating on busy campuses and public sites.

James develops strong communications with the client, is highly collaborative with the design team to deliver their vision, and has often refined design aspects for the overall project benefit.

Garry has over 45 years’ extensive experience in the construction industry, and provides a sound technical knowledge and task appreciation for works of this nature. These vital attributes come from years of practical, hands-on experience working with multiple parties to achieve joint project success, particularly for projects with site constraints and stringent site management protocols.

Garry’s role involves providing assistance to project managers across particular trades; managing the more complex key site installation activities including cranage, structure and the mechanical services risers and associated works, where his planning and programming of works permits a high level of on-site activity to meet the aspirational programme.

In relation to site safety, Garry has a great appreciation of on-site OHS&E requirements, and works notice processes.

Darren Malee is an experienced Site Manager who started life as a Carpenter and Joiner, working for many years with one of London’s most prestigious joinery companies, Brown and Carroll. Darren was part of the team that delivered the athletes village refurbishment in Stratford for the London Olympics 2012, and progressed quickly to become a Site Manager with Lendlease in London on a variety of commercial building projects, including the $2.5Bn regeneration of Elephant and Castle Park project.

Darren has managed various office and teaching space fitouts within the Education sector, and was integral to the delivery of the Camberwell Primary School library extension project 11 weeks ahead of schedule. Darren also delivered the major redevelopment and refurbishment at the Abbotsford Primary School heritage building, where careful attention to both facade and internal features were deemed a major success factor.

Having commenced his career as a qualified carpenter with a Tier 1 builder, Rob has a very solid foundation for the safe delivery of construction works on complex and challenging sites.

He quickly progressed to a Site Foreman and then Site Manager role, working with Tier 2 fitout and refurbishment builders and has worked across a wide variety of industries – including aged care, retail fitouts in large-scale shopping centres and local councils.

Rob has a particular ability to provide great quality finishes, where his attention to detail places him in great stead to ensure the trade workmanship delivers great outcomes for his client.

He was a team member on many of their jobs where the organisation was awarded honours for delivering prestigious and innovative works in both Ireland and further within the UK. He gained substantial experience working across the UK, India, South East Asia and most recently Australia. He also gained invaluable exposure to works across a broad range of project types and sectors – including Education, Sports & Recreation, Retail, Commercial, Residential, Civil and Pharmaceuticals.

Tony is an experienced contracts administrator and project manager with a demonstrated history of working in the commercial construction industry. Skilled in project estimation, contract law, project procurement, pre-construction, and cost control, Tony is a strong business development, procurement-driven professional focused in construction management, finance and construction economics.

He has a demonstrated knowledge of the complex interaction between Modular building techniques and the development of costing and project procurement for large-scale commercial as well as high-end residential modular builds nationally. He has strong stakeholder management skills, with a proven track record of front-end company-representation – providing pipelines and new business connections within a strategic marketplace.

As the Marketing and Social Media Manager, Celeste works closely with our Marketing Director and the wider team to help drive brand awareness and effective internal and external communications.

With experience working with brands such as L’Oreal, Vespa, Triumph, Moto Guzzi, Aprilia, as well as the Cotton On Group, Celeste has been able to use her diverse experience and skills to help continue to grow and develop the Alchemy brand in new and exciting ways.

During his time working in civil construction, Nik ensured each team had the relevant plant and equipment required to meet project milestones, and built great relationships with sub-contractors and labour resource staff to achieve efficient and effective resource allocations. A subsequent stint with a residential developer entailed detailed reviews of specifications and finishes, as well as an appreciation for sub-divisions and associated infrastructure services.

Working alongside our experienced project managers on projects, such as the complex Stroke Unit fitout at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Nik has proven competence with the coordination of engineering services on highly complex and challenging projects, managing key trades in stringently controlled hospital environments.

Nik subsequently moved into the role of project manager, enforcing strict site protocols and OHS&E requirements, with an emphasis on safe work practices, overseeing hazardous materials removal works, and managing works in the heart of busy sites. In his role as PM his meticulous planning and communications with trades has resulted in tremendous works flow on his sites. Nik excels in the implementation of strict construction detailing requirements, he has great attention to detail and he takes pride in the quality of his finished works.

With nearly 10 years in the industry, Nathan developed a passion for construction while undertaking a number of demolition and defects works projects for a commercial building contractor.

His strong work ethic, desire to succeed and passion to deliver the best for the client has seen him excel in his role as Site Manager. Currently working on our health infrastructure projects, Nathan understands the complexities of works in these types of spaces, and the technical, safety and programme management skills required for successful project delivery.

Mitch is a Senior Site Manager who brings a wealth of knowledge to Alchemy Construct, starting his career “from the ground up” as a qualified carpenter in the partitions and shop fitting industry, then several years experience in the domestic housing industry for high-end spec homes, giving Mitch a strong passion for high-level finishes.

It’s important a site manager has a keen eye for detail, and Mitch is proud of his portfolio of projects completed with the absolute minimal defects at the time of the architect’s initial walk-throughs. Mitch has successfully delivered over 15 major fitout projects in the tertiary education sector, completed a quality cafe fitout in the foyer of 120 Spencer St in the CBD, and has a focus on strict adherence to OHS&E in the delivery of all works in the “live” and hectic school environments.

Martin commenced with a diverse range of fitout and extension experience, including commercial, medical suites, education and local council facilities. Over his 16 years in construction he’s worked across a broad range of project types of increased magnitude, including major redevelopments and new builds.

With his strong technical acumen, he excelled on technically challenging projects, successfully delivering complex projects that included data centres, specialist laboratories and medical facilities. Martin has a passion for a proactive and systematic approach to planning major works in “live” environments, so he’s been instrumental in the safe execution of works in community and campus based projects.

With degrees in Business (Marketing) and Design, Amy is the creative talent behind our bid submissions.

Working to tight deadlines, her calm, unflappable nature ensures our submissions are completed in due time and to a very high standard.

As part of a close-knit team, Amy’s strong communication and organisation skills, together with her eye for detail, are a critical part of ensuring the success of our Tendering and Estimating team. She adds much to the team through her positivity and drive to succeed.

Amy started her career in a Marketing Coordinator role, progressing to Submissions Coordinator at Coleman Rail. Having found her preferred “niche” she subsequently worked as the Bid Coordinator at Spotless Facility Services before joining Alchemy.

With 5 years’ experience in the Construction Industry, she now plays a key role in the drafting of our responses as well as responsibility for the creative element of our designs and submissions.

Graduating with a BEV with a Construction Major, Anthony commenced his career, cutting his teeth in the areas of estimating and contract administration.

Having gained valuable experience in these areas, he decided to take the next step in his career and joined Alchemy as a Project Coordinator.

Anthony quickly settled in and has become a valued member of our team. He is currently working on one of our key projects – a greenfield project for Lifestyle Communities.

He brings great energy into the business with his can-do attitude, and his attention to detail is fundamental to the great work he does across all his projects.

Commencing his career in Ireland before moving to London and subsequently Australia, Adrian has 10+ years of Site Management and Contract Administration experience. A sound understanding of site works was gained managing a broad range of trades with Glenman Corporation in London on two major Primary Schools projects, where Adrian produced outstanding results to strict deadlines. Adrian has a strong passion for detailed fit-outs, co-ordinating the building services, and can drive a large programme of works to non-negotiable deadlines.

Adrian’s previous stint as a site manager, always ensuring works are completed with minimal impact to adjacent business operations, was illustrated during the delivery of Monash Medical Centre E1 Teaching Space and Monash University’s Living Lab.  Adrian prides himself on a pro-active approach to the project benefit, with a thorough technical understanding and the delivery of comprehensive, concise correspondence.
